»How to toujou« as editor

Some hints for efficient working in the toujou backend

While creating a website, editors do have a lot of tools at their disposal with toujou. That is due to the content management system TYPO3. When used in a proper way, these tools can help to save time.

In this blog post we will show you the (much too often) idle functions of the list view and the fileadmin. In addition, we will give you some hints how to quickly show, copy and delete pages. En top: the trick how to create multiple pages at once. Let's get started!

Work with toujou elements

Edit a single element

If you want to work on an element, we recommend the following: Move the mouse over the element until the cursor appears as a hand, thus clicking directly into the element. Then edit the content. Alternatively, you can click on the edit icon (pencil) at the top right edge of the element box.

If you want to edit several selected elements of a page at the same time, follow the steps listed below.

How to move an element

You can easily move an element on a page using drag'n'drop.

To do this, navigate with the mouse on the top of the element so that a cross symbol appears. Select the element at this point and keep the mouse button pressed. Then scroll the element to the desired position. Before you release the mouse button, the cursor should point to a green field as indicated in the video.

Make sure that the cursor is in the right side column at any time. The drag'n'drop won't work within the page tree.

Work on multiple elements of a page at once

Do you still click on each element individually when creating or editing a website? You don't have to.

Just use the edit icon at the top right of a page area. All elements listed there will be at your disposal. This feature is particularly valuable when copying whole pages. Especially in the content area of a page, to be even more precise.

Important: Always save your changes temporarily so that you don't risk to lose them in the event of a internet breakdown.

Copy multiple elements to another page

The "copy elements" function is a very helpful and time-saving feature. You don't have to transfer each element from one page to the other. Instead, you are able to do it quickly within a few steps. No annoying repetition of the same sequence with clicking on the element, copying the element, pasting the element. And then again from the beginning.

Click on the page

Click on the list view of a page in the backend. Therefore navigate to "list" in the module bar and select the desired page on which the elements you want to copy are located (in our example, "Wie").

Select multi-selection mode

Choose a multi-selection mode. For the clipboard, make sure that you have selected the "copy elements" option and not the "move elements" option.

Copy your elements

Check the boxes of the elements you want to copy in the section page content (in our example there are three checkmarks). Select the "Transfer selected records to clipboard" option using the icon. Expand the drop-down menu to display all elements at once, if neccessary.

Insert the elements

Navigate to the page where you want to insert the elements (here "Wer"). Insert the elements in the desired place by clicking the "insert after" option next to the desired element.

Delete multiple elements

You can delete single elements by selecting the element on the page. When it comes to several elements it becomes more complex. Once again the list view is quicker and less complicated. You can follow the steps under "copy elements" copy elements" with one exception. At the end choose the trash icon.

The toujou element library

Pure text elements, image-text combinations, teasers, cards, quotes, plus elements for blog and much more.

Our element library offers over 150 elements. All built and implemented with design and function in mind – for responsive design at any time.

Our descriptions for elements will give you each a sample view, a manual, and specifics on display behavior.

Working with the fileadmin

The fileadmin offers you not only to deposit media content in the toujou backend as well as access to the files as described in our tutorial. The TYPO3 feature has a lot more to offer.

Replace images

You want to replace one image that is used several times on your website? There is a corresponding function in the fileadmin. With three clicks you can quickly replace the existing image.

  1. Select the folder where the respective image is located so that you can see the file.
  2. Click on the replace icon of the image. (If this is not displayed, activate the "advanced view" at the bottom of the image display).
  3. Upload the new image from your clipboard. Decide whether or not to keep the file name. Press "replace", the image will be kept in the same folder / place in the file list.

A first overview of how to upload and edit files and how to move directories can be found in the fileadmin tutorial

Media data are always submitted

If a image is tagged in the fileadmin with various data such as metadata, source, alt tag, title, and caption, this information is automatically submitted or displayed each time the image is used on your website. That is thanks to the reference function in TYPO3.

However, this does not affect the option to modify data of an image for a single element on a page.

Searching for files

You are looking for an particular media and can't find it in the folder? Maybe because you are searchin in the wrong folder. But we have the solution. By clicking on the parent folder you can enter the media name in the search field. The system will then examine all sub-folders and spit out the file with the search term.

Note: To retrieval a file easily, it is important that you name the media accordingly and that you don't upload them as image_2022_07_22.

Fileadmin

You want to learn more about the fileadmin and how to work with it?

We explain how to handle images, videos and files and how to upload and edit your files. On top you will receive tips, tricks and hints on how to move and rename files without any problems.

Due to TYPO3, the content management system toujou is relying on, the file list offers many advantages. The structures stored according to TYPO3 principles are just as much a part of this as the folders customized and edited according to your personal needs.

Build pages made easy

Find pages quickly

Many of you already know how to search for a word on websites. Ctrl + F or for Mac users cmd + F is maybe the most popular combination in the internet. In the toujou backend you are also able to find respective pages using search filters – bypassing manual browsing in the page tree.

Click on the filter icon next to the page tree area, which offers you the choice of different page types. Enter the title of the page – or some letters of it. Pay attention to the correct spelling and possible spaces. All the pages with the name will appear then.

We may note that especially on websites with many pages editors often tend to have only some pages of the first level displayed. Subpages remain unshown. If you then want to find a page, you won't succeed by using the general search function with Ctrl + F or cmd + F for the backend. That is because only the pages that are expanded in the page tree will be displayed. Therefore the search via search filter as indicated is much more fun.

Change the page title

Changing the page within seconds would be a dream? It hasn't to rest a wish. You can quickly change the page title by clicking on it. Simply paste the new title into the open text field. This saves you the intermediate step via the page properties.

Note: Changing the page title does not affect the URL. If you want to edit it, you have to go to the page properties

Copying pages

You want to build a new page for your website and the structure of the page should be the same to another one? Why not copying it? With this option all elements are transferred in the same arrangement.

Click in the page tree on the icon of the page to be copied. A new pop-up window will open with a menu. Choose the option "copy pages". Now navigate within the page tree to the place where you want to paste the copied page.

With "paste to" the page will be placed directly after the clicked page. With "Paste after" the page will be placed one hierarchy level below. You can now start filling the content (text, images, videos) on the page.

If you want to reproduce the same content on several pages and are tired of adjusting it everywhere, you can use the reference function for elements by means of Insert Record.

Enable pages

The page properties offers you the possibility to display or hide a page via the "access" tab. A quicker way is to menu-click the corresponding page as described earlier. After the menu has opened, simply press "enable page".

Delete pages: Deleting pages is also easily possible via this menu with one click.
