Step by step

Set up a user folder

  • Before hiding a page that will only be accessible to a user group through a front end login, you first have to create a user group folder to store the users.
  • Navigate to the folder icon and keep the left mouse button pressed down until you have placed the icon in the desired position on the page tree.
  • Name the folder, for our example »Website Users«.

Create website usergroups

  • Before creating a front end login only page you will have to create the corresponding records for user groups and users.
  • To do so, click on the list view in the corresponding folder and then the + icon. Select the record website user group and a new window will open automatically.
  • Enter the desired name for the website user group in the group title in the tab »General«.
  • Save the settings.

Create a website user

  • To create a website user, click the + icon in the list view and the corresponding folder, and then click the record Website Users.
  • Assign a personal username and password in the tab General of the new pop-up window.
  • Link the website user to a usergroup by clicking on the desired groups from the available items
  • Save the settings.

Create the login form

  • The TYPO3 element »login form« will let you implement the Front end login on a page. Select this element in the module list while on the page view, then on the respective page
  • With a click on the + content icon a pop-up window will open and you will be able to select on the tab widgets the element login form.

Link a user

  • To activate the website user for the login area, you first have to link the record in the registration form.
  • While in the tab Plugin in the user storage page click on the folder icon on the right. A pop-up window will open and you will be able to choose the folder for website users.
  • To redirect the user after a successful login, first select the tab Redirects located next to General and choose »After login (TS or Flexform)« from the available items, so that it appears among the selected items. To ensure that users that input a successful login are redirected to the correct page you must link the page by clicking on the folder icon and selecting the desired page in your page tree. This step is also needed for redirects after a failed login or a user logout.
  • Save your changes.

Set up a login protected page

  • To make a page accessible only to a certain usergroup, you must create a separate Front end in it.
  • To do this, go to the tab access in the page properties of the page. In the tab available items choose the desired user group so that it appears among the selected items. The item »Show at any login« includes all user groups.
  • Save your settings.

Set up a login restricted content element

  • With toujou, along with restricting access to one page you can also limit access to individual content elements.
  • Click on the edit button (pencil icon) of the respective element and set the restriction in the tab access by selecting the appropriate usergroup in the available items
  • Save your settings.

Pieces of advice

toujou is based on TYPO3 and anyone familiar with TYPO3 knows that there are many different options to use to reach your desired results. We would like to point out important information and little tricks that can assist you when you’re creating and editing your website.

Restricting or limiting access for users is also possible for whole page trees. Just click on any related page to open the tab access to locate the page properties and then use this section to activate »extend to subpages« controller. You are able to set up several subpages at once by right-clicking on the corresponding overpage and selecting »More options« and then »Create multiple pages«.

With toujou you can individualize your website user by assigning them not only a username and password, but by also adding the first and last name, address and telephone number in the tab »personal data«. You can enter a personal greeting in tab »Plugin and messages«, to allow more personal touch.
