Step by step guide  Pieces of advice  Cookie handling in toujou

Step by step

Service navigation

  • Click on the »Page« module to get to your page tree.
  • The Service Navigation folder contains three preconfigured service pages: Contact, Legal note and Privacy statement (these are automatically displayed in the footer navigation).
  • By moving your mouse over the page icon of the »Privacy statement« page, you will see the ID number »12«. In every toujou installation this number is the default number for data protection content. This information is important for the setup shown below.
  • By clicking on the »Privacy statement« page you will find predefined text elements in the page content that represent the toujou standard privacy text. If you don’t have your own privacy statement ready, just exchange the visible placeholders »YOUR COMPANY«.

Privacy statement text

  • It is recommended to keep the »ID = 12« subpage for the presentation of a privacy policy, since any further settings will depend on the ID number chosen for this subpage. This will result in two scenarios:
    • NO INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY POLICY TEXT: If you do not have an individual privacy statement, please just replace the placeholders with your individual details. To do this, please click on the pencil icon to edit the individual elements.
    • USING YOUR OWN DATA PROTECTION TEXT FOR THE ID=12 PAGE: Simply delete the provided text elements by clicking on the trash can icon on the right side of the elements and insert your own text (see toujou text elements description).
  • You are free to create a new privacy page. In this case, please note the ID number of the subpage (by mouseover on the page icon) and make a note of it. However, it is recommended to sort the page within the Service Navigation folder.

Dialog box for cookies & third-party content

  • Click on the »toujou Theme« module to get to the Data Protection tab.
  • Here you determine whether a dialog box with consent options on tracking and third-party content should be displayed.
  • If the dialog box is displayed, users will be given three options when accessing the website: »Settings«, »Deny all« and »Accept all«.
  • Only if compatible with your privacy policy: If you hide the dialog box, cookies are automatically stored with the »Pre-check« values you set in this tab.

Insert external Consent Management Provider

Only for professionals: With the integration of the external Consent Management Provider (CMP), all Consent Management is removed from toujou. All external content such as maps, videos and HTML elements will pass through the external Consent Management Provider.

  • To include an external Consent Management Provider, select the field Use external Consent Management Provider (CMP) from the drop-down menu in the section Consent Management.
  • Paste the code of the provide in the HTML field CMP <head> code.

Link to privacy statement

You will only need to follow the steps listed below if you’ve set-up a new privacy policy content page that does NOT have the preconfigured content page ID=12.

  • Click on the »toujou Theme« module to get to the Data Protection tab.
  • General Data Protection Regulation: Here you will see the current link to your privacy policy.
  • Alternatively: With the Link button located further to the right you can put the link onto the correct subpage. For this purpose, an external window (Link Browser) opens. In your page tree, select the page you have set-up for your website's privacy policy.
  • The link is set automatically by clicking on the desired page. Then click on the Save button above the workspace.
  • Please note: For multilingual websites, make sure to set a TYPO3 link by clicking on the page in the link handler and do not set an absolute link.

Cookie settings

Follow these steps if you have entered a Google Analytics ID in the previous Analytics Settings. Otherwise no consent for tracking will be requested.

  • Cookie hint consent checkbox: Here you can specify that visitors will see the sentence »Allow anonymous tracking« at the bottom of the cookie hint window and a checkbox to the right to accept or reject (Show consent checkboxes = green).
  • Pre-check tracking checkbox: Here you can specify whether the above-mentioned box is to be displayed to visitors with a check mark (Checked = green) or whether this consent is to be given actively (Unchecked = red).
  • Cookie lifetime duration: Choose between Default or Session.
    • Default: Cookies are always active unless they are deleted. This data can also be collected as personal data.
    • Session: When the browser is closed, cookies are also deleted. No personalized data is stored.

Consent to the use of third-party content

Lifetime of third-party consents:

  • Here you define for how many days the consent of your website visitors to display third-party content should be valid.
  • Select a value from 0 to 1,000. If you choose »0«, cookies are only valid for one session.

The following buttons should only be set to »Checked« (= green) if via contractual agreements you do not require any active permission from your users!

  • Pre-check video consent checkbox: Activate the checkbox »Allow third-party videos«, which allows the rendering of third-party video resources.
  • Pre-check maps consent checkbox: Activate the checkbox »Allow third-party maps«, which allows the rendering of third-party map services (Map Elements).
  • Pre-check HTML content consent checkbox: Activate the checkbox »Allow third-party HTML content«, which allows the rendering of general third-party resources (e.g. newsletter services).

No Google Analytics ID?

If you don't use Google Analytics, you don't need to worry about any of these steps, any necessary cookies, like the storage of age requirements will be automatically implemented by the system.

An overview of the benefits and consequences of collecting personal data with cookies, can be found in our detailed blog post on cookie handling in toujou.
