Text editing

In order to handle headlines and their tags, texts, lists and tables, styles and font sizes, buttons and links you need to master working with the text editor in TYPO3.

Step by step

Headlines and text styles

  • For the following explanations and video tutorials, the content element itself plays a minor role as long as it includes a text editor.
  • In the text editor you can select text and text parts to tag as headings H1 to H5 via the drop-down Format.
  • Within the format »Normal« above Styles, you can assign headline or subheadline styles as well as font sizes. These are:

Teasertext (= bold/font size »Normal«)

Infotext (= bigger than »Normal«)

Notes (= smaller than »Normal«)

Lists & enumerations

  • In the toujou text editor, the buttons Underline and Strikethrough are available (in addition to the video tutorials below).
  • The buttons Insert/Remove numbered list and Insert/Remove bulleted list have a special function in toujou: After clicking on one of the two listing options, you will no longer find the style selection of the headlines and subheadlines in the Styles menu (see above), but
    • Numbered list (Nummerierte Liste) or respectively
    • List of bullets (Liste mit Punkten) instead.
  • With these style options, you can visually distinguish your lists of styled numbers or bullet points from the far simpler representation in the font color.
  • In addition, it is possible to superscript or subscript textual content by clicking x2 or x2.

Link buttons

  • You can create various linked buttons in the text editor.
  • Specify the text to be linked by placing the cursor in the line or highlighting the words in question.
  • The link can be formatted directly within the text field with the link button above the text field.
  • Select from any of the available tabs to link within subpages, data elements or to an external URL.
  • If necessary, edit the color and shape of the button using the Styles drop-down menu.
  • The available buttons frame the linked words or take the full width of the text field:

Pieces of advice

toujou is based on TYPO3 and anyone familiar with TYPO3 knows that there are many different options to use to reach your desired results. We would like to point out important information and little tricks that can assist you when you’re creating and editing your website.

Working with the rich text editor (RTE) in toujou or TYPO3 is very similar to working with any other editing software, with only a few slight differences. Be flexible by experimenting with the possibilities but be careful when copying/pasting texts onto formatted content. Pay close attention because some of these formats may need to be deleted or reset from scratch to appear in the front end the way you envisioned.

Further tips for dealing with the RTE can be found in the video tutorials located above and in the element descriptions of the toujou element library.
